Choose a date to see how many days, weeks and working days are left until it, or how long ago it passed. It starts on 25 December as a default.
Results are estimates for planning. Check the figures before you make a financial or health decision.
How the Countdown to a date works
The tool compares today’s date, taken from your device, with the date you choose. The difference in calendar days is the headline figure.
- Weeks and days are that figure divided by seven, with the remainder shown in days.
- Working days counts every day in between that falls from Monday to Friday. It does not remove bank holidays. For that, use the Working days and bank holidays calculator.
- Weekend days is the total minus the working days.
- Hours is days multiplied by 24, so it is approximate and ignores clock changes.
If the date is today, it says so. If the date is in the past, the same figures are shown as time since. Today itself is not counted, but the target date is. The result depends on your device’s clock, so if that is wrong, so is the countdown.
Tips and common mistakes
Use the working-days row when you are planning around a deadline, but remember it does not take out public holidays or your own leave. Switch to the working days and bank holidays tool for a figure that does.
For events abroad, remember the date changes at a different moment in different time zones. If you want to know the days between two dates that are not today, use the Days between dates calculator instead.
