House of Calculator

This policy explains what personal data House of Calculator (houseofcalculator.com) handles and why. We have kept it short because the site collects very little.

Who we are

The data controller is House of Calculator, operated by [operator name and address to be completed before launch]. You can contact us at hello@houseofcalculator.com. This policy is written with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) in mind.

The short version

  • The site is a static website. There are no accounts, no forms, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies.
  • Calculator inputs are processed locally in your browser. They are not transmitted to us.
  • We save one preference, your currency choice, in your browser’s local storage.
  • Our hosting provider and content delivery network (CDN) keep technical logs, and pages load fonts from Google Fonts.

What data we handle

Data Why Where it is held
Numbers you type into calculators To show you a result Your browser only. Not sent to us.
Currency preference To remember your choice Your browser’s local storage. We cannot access it.
Technical request data: IP address, browser user agent, requested URL, timestamp To deliver pages, keep the site secure and diagnose faults Server logs at our hosting provider and CDN
IP address and browser details sent to Google when fonts load To load the site’s fonts Google
Emails you send to us To reply to you Our email system

Lawful bases

For server logs and security, we rely on legitimate interests under UK GDPR: keeping the website available, secure and working properly. We have considered your interests and the data is limited and used only for those purposes. If you email us, we rely on legitimate interests to read and reply to your message.

Cookies and local storage

We do not set cookies. The currency preference is stored in your browser’s localStorage. It is not a cookie, it stays on your device, and we cannot read it. It is needed only to provide the setting you chose. You can remove it at any time by clearing your site data in your browser settings.

Third parties

Hosting and CDN. Our hosting provider and CDN process request data on our behalf to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

Google Fonts. Pages load fonts from Google Fonts. When they do, your browser contacts Google’s servers, so your IP address and browser details are sent to Google. Google’s own privacy information is available on its website at policies.google.com/privacy. We may self-host fonts in future so that this no longer happens.

International transfers

Our hosting provider, CDN and Google may process data outside the UK. Where this happens, we expect the providers to use safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK’s international data transfer arrangements.

How long we keep data

Server logs are kept by our providers only for as long as needed for security and delivery, in line with their standard retention periods. Emails to us are kept for as long as needed to deal with your query and then deleted. Local storage stays on your device until you clear it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access your personal data, have it corrected, have it erased, restrict or object to its use, and to data portability, where these apply. Because we hold so little data and cannot identify visitors from it, we may not be able to link a request to a particular person. To make a request, email hello@houseofcalculator.com. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13. There are no accounts, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Our pages and guides may link to other websites, such as GOV.UK. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please read their policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time and will change the date at the top when we do. If we add analytics, advertising or email features, we will update this policy first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before using them.
