About the site and cost
What is House of Calculator?
House of Calculator is a collection of free online calculators for money, tax, health, dates, travel and home. There are 98 tools and 50 guides that explain how the sums are worked out.
Is it really free?
Yes. Every calculator and guide is free to use, with no sign-up, no account and no paywall.
Do I need to create an account or give an email address?
No. There are no accounts and no forms. Open a calculator, type your numbers and read the result.
Who runs the site?
House of Calculator is written and maintained by the House of Calculator team. The Privacy Policy and Terms of Use give the operator details.
Can I suggest a calculator or report a mistake?
Yes, please. Use the contact form and include the name of the tool and what you expected to see. If you spot an error, include the numbers you entered so that we can reproduce it.
Do you give financial or medical advice?
No. Everything on the site is general information, not financial, tax, legal, mortgage or medical advice. For decisions that matter, speak to a qualified adviser, your lender, HMRC or your GP.
Accuracy and how calculations work
How accurate are the results?
They are estimates. Each calculator shows its assumptions so that you can see what has been included and what has not. Real-life results can differ because of your personal circumstances, rounding or rules we have not modelled.
Which tax year do the UK tax calculators use?
The UK tax and pay tools use rates for the 2026/27 tax year, which runs from 6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027. Try UK take-home pay or Stamp duty.
What happens when tax rates or rules change?
Rates and thresholds are taken from official UK sources and we update the tools when the rules change, but there can be a delay. Always check GOV.UK for the current position before you rely on a figure.
Where do the rates come from?
From official sources such as GOV.UK, GOV.SCOT and Revenue Scotland, and GOV.WALES. Our guides are date-stamped so you can see when they were last reviewed.
Does the take-home pay calculator cover Scotland?
Yes. UK take-home pay uses the Scottish income tax bands if you choose Scotland, and the England, Wales and Northern Ireland bands otherwise. It also handles student loans and pension contributions. See UK income tax explained: bands, allowance and how it's worked out for how the bands work.
Why does my mortgage or lender figure differ from yours?
Lenders may add fees, use different rounding, change the rate during the term or calculate interest on a different schedule. Our Mortgage calculator uses the standard repayment formula, so treat it as a close guide and check your lender’s illustration. How mortgage repayments are calculated explains the maths.
Privacy and data
Are my numbers sent to your servers?
No. Calculations run in your browser on your own device. Nothing you type into a calculator is sent to, or stored on, our servers.
Do you use cookies or tracking?
At launch, no. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. The Privacy Policy explains this in full and what we would do if that changed.
Does the site remember anything about me?
Only your currency choice. It is saved in your browser’s local storage on your own device, so it is not a cookie and we cannot see it. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Does anyone else see my visit?
Our hosting provider records standard technical request data, such as IP address and requested page, for security and delivery. Pages also load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your IP address and browser details are sent to Google. The Privacy Policy has the details.
Using the calculators
Can I change the currency?
Yes. Use the currency selector on the page. The symbol on results changes and your choice is remembered in your browser. The tax and property tools are built around UK rules, so the symbol changes but the rates do not.
Does the site work outside the UK?
Many tools do, such as percentages, loans, BMI, units and the time zone converter. The site is UK-first, using British English, pounds and UK tax rules, so tax, property and State Pension tools are only relevant to the UK.
How do I clear a calculator and start again?
Use the reset button on the calculator. It puts the fields back to their starting values.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The calculators are designed for small screens first, with large inputs and results that sit below the fields.
How many countries does the holidays tool cover?
Working days and bank holidays counts working days using public holidays for the UK and more than 100 countries. Holidays set by decree or a lunar calendar can change, so check an official source for anything important. UK bank holidays and how to count working days covers the UK.
How do the date and time zone tools handle daylight saving?
Time zone converter takes daylight saving into account for the cities you choose. The UK uses GMT in winter and BST in summer, and other countries change on different dates, so always check the date you are converting. See Time zones explained: how to convert times without mistakes.
Can I type into the scientific calculator with my keyboard?
Yes. In Scientific calculator you can type an expression such as 2*(3+4)^2 or use the on-screen keys. Basic calculator also accepts keyboard input.
Where should I start?
Try UK take-home pay for pay after tax, Stamp duty for buying a home or Mortgage calculator for monthly payments. Each has a matching guide that shows the working.
