House of Calculator

Pick a start and end date to count the days between them. You also get weeks and days, the number of weekdays and an approximate number of months.

Results are estimates for planning. Check the figures before you make a financial or health decision.

How the Days between dates works

The tool counts calendar days from the start date up to, but not including, the end date. If you want both dates counted, add one day to the result.

  • If the end date is before the start date, it swaps them, so the order does not matter.
  • Weeks and days divides the total by seven.
  • Weekdays counts each Monday to Friday in the range, one day at a time.
  • Approximate months divides by 30.4375, the average length of a month over four years, so it is only a guide.

Weekdays are not adjusted for bank holidays. If you need working days that exclude public holidays, use the workdays tool, which covers many countries.

Dates are treated as plain calendar dates, so clock changes in spring and autumn do not affect the count. The range is limited to about 200 years.

Tips and common mistakes

Decide whether you want to include the end date, and add one day if you do. For deadlines, notice periods and contracts, check how the document counts days, because some count calendar days and others count working days. Use the workdays tool when bank holidays matter. For a countdown to a future date, the countdown tool is quicker. Check the dates are in the right order and the right year before relying on the result.

Frequently asked questions

Does the calculator include the end date?

No. It counts the start date but not the end date. Add one day to the result if you need both counted.

Does it exclude bank holidays?

No. The weekday count only leaves out Saturdays and Sundays. Use the workdays calculator to exclude public holidays.

Does the order of the dates matter?

No. If the end date is earlier than the start date, the tool swaps them and counts the same gap.
